From 1960 to 1962, he has been worked as a leading designer at Gorky Institute of Design, Technology and Research.

Subsequently, Rauf Ablyazov moved to Cherkasy and started working at the Design and Technology Institute of Cherkasy Council of National Economy as the head of the design shop. In 1966, he was appointed the head of design department in the special design bureau of “Fotoprylad” plant.

In 1974 on his initiative, an independent structure was created at the enterprise - Sokil Central Design Bureau of the Ministry of Defence Industry of the USSR, with Rauf Ablyazov as its head and chief designer.

Between 1970 and 1982, under the leadership of designer Ablyazov, on-board equipment for the “Strizh”, “Race”, and “Krylo” unmanned aerial reconnaissance systems, which are still in service today, was developed. Rauf Ablyazov was awarded the USSR State Prize, the highest honour of the time, for the development of unmanned aerial systems.

In 1968, the design bureau joined the space development; and Ablyazov became the chief designer of equipment for the manned space stations Salyut-3 and Salyut-5, and created unique equipment under “Almaz” programme, which allowed for the first time in the world to carry out chemical and photographic processing of large-format film directly on board the space station. These images were transmitted then in real time from the space station to the Earth using “Pechera” photographic and television equipment.

In the following years, the design bureau worked on the development of optical sighting systems for controlling tactical missiles for helicopter systems, sighting systems for armoured vehicles, and sighting equipment for tank systems. In 1985, Rauf Ablyazov became the director of the Cherkasy plant “Fotoprylad”. According to the results of the design bureau’s work, more than a hundred copyright certificates for inventions were issued, and six employees were awarded the title of the USSR State Prize laureates for creating new equipment, while about 20 specialists received orders and medals.

Since 1988, Rauf Ablyazov has been worked at Cherkasy Engineering Institute as the head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology. On his initiative, the institute set up a technological laboratory with technical equipment and computer numerical control. For the first time, Rauf Ablyazov set up a computer-aided design laboratory based on “Nairi” computers at Cherkasy Engineering Institute. This allowed students to complete their graduation projects using computer technology at that time.

In 1980, Rauf Ablyazov defended his PhD thesis at the State Optical Institute (St. Petersburg), and in 1987, he received his doctorate. In 1989, he became a professor. For his great contribution to science and education, a Presidential Decree awarded him the honorary title of Honoured Worker of Science and Technology.

In 1992, Rauf Akhmetovich became the founder of one of the first private educational institutions in Ukraine - the Institute of Business Management, which later became East European Institute of Economics and Management. Now East European University proudly bears the name of its founder, Rauf Ablyazov.

Rauf Ablyazov was the first who formulate theoretically the basic principles of establishing and managing a private educational institution and created a powerful educational institution that is known both in Ukraine and abroad.
